Iranian ‘Haboob’ competing at Portugal’s CineEco festival

Iranian animation ‘Haboob’ is competing at the 27th CineEco – Serra da Estrela Int’l Environmental Film Festival in Portugal.

Acclaimed Iranian animation ‘Haboob’ has been competing at the 27th edition of the CineEco – Serra da Estrela International Environmental Film Festival in Portugal.

Directed by Mahsa Samani and produced by Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC), the 9-minute animation tells the story of a man and his daughter, who are accustomed to living in harmony and peace with nature, but some disruptions change their lovely little life.

‘Haboob’ went on screen at some global events, including the World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb in Croatia, the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film in Germany, where it received a special mention, and the Karama Human Rights Film Festival in Jordan, where it won the award for best short animation.

It has also received the award for best animation at the International Earth Film Festival in Iran.

The CineEco – Serra da Estrela festival is the only film festival in Portugal dedicated to the environmental theme.

It has been organized every year continuously since 1995 by an initiative of the Municipality of Seia.

The festival is taking place at the Municipal House of Culture in Seia and at the CISE – Serra da Estrela Interpretation Center.

It has already gained great international prestige by screening dozens of feature, short, animation and documentary films from over 30 countries.

The CineEco offers the general public quality cinema and little-known cinematographies that are alternatives to the traditional market.

In addition to the general public, the festival attracts thousands of children and young people from the municipality and surrounding region, as well as tourists visiting Serra da Estrela, to movie theaters.

The 2021 edition of the festival has been scheduled for October 9-16.

‘Echo’ by Barzan Rostami is the other representative of Iran at this edition of the Portuguese fest.
